CSIR-NIScPR Organizes ‘Phenome India’ – A Unique Health Check-up Camp

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has achieved a significant milestone with its
Phenome India‘ project, reaching 10,000 collected samples. This initiative, officially named the
Phenome India-CSIR Health Cohort Knowledgebase (PI-CHCK), represents a pioneering effort to
understand the diverse health landscape of India and to foster health and wellness within the CSIR
community.
The National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (NIScPR), one of CSIR’s
constituent laboratories, organized a health check-up camp from March 3 to 5, 2024, at its Pusa
Campus in New Delhi. The camp was part of the broader PI-CHeCK initiative aimed at ensuring
“Swasthya Bharat Viksit Bharat” (Healthy India, Developed India).

Inauguration and Objectives

The health check-up camp was inaugurated by Prof. Ranjana Aggarwal, Director of CSIR-NIScPR,
and Dr. Shantanu Sengupta, Chief Scientist of CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology
(IGIB)
. This initiative is dedicated to promoting holistic health within the CSIR family. The event
was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Kanika Malik, Dr. Narendra Kumar Sahoo, Dr. Arvind Meena, Shri
Narendra Pal, and Shri Kailash Chand Parewa. The camp saw enthusiastic participation from
around 98 individuals within the institute.
